BRIDGE PAINTING – 11 BRIDGES
VARIOUS TOWNS
DUTCHESS, ORANGE, ROCKLAND, AND WESTCHESTER COUNTIES
Dear Mr. Maraglio:
The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) is progressing the subject
federally funded project that proposes to paint the steel surfaces of eleven (11) bridges to
protect against normal environmental effects of corrosion, acid rain, and de-icing agents. This
work will remove corrosive substances, debris and dirt that have accumulated on the bridge
superstructures and re-paint them to maintain their structural integrity and restore the overall
aesthetics of the structures. The bridges are in various municipalities in Dutchess, Orange,
Rockland, and Westchester Counties. Three (3) of the 11 bridges are in the designated New
York State Coastal Zone Management Area (CZMA) and/or a special management area:
•
Bridge Identification Number (BIN) 1032491 & BIN 1032492 – I-84 over Fishkill Creek –
Fishkill, Dutchess County
o Within the CZMA and Croton-On-Hudson Local Waterfront Revitalization
Program (LWRP) Area
•
BIN 1005020 – Warren Rd over Rt 9 - Croton-On-Hudson, Westchester County
o Within the CZMA and Hudson Highlands Scenic Area of Statewide Significance
(SASS)
Photographs and project location maps are attached for the 3 bridges referenced above. These
3 bridges are currently painted green and will be re-painted green. This letter serves as Federal
Aid Notification.
No federal permits are required. The project impacts will occur within the operational right-of-
way. The project is funded by Federal Highway Administration and has a scheduled letting of
10/20/2022. The project is a NEPA Class II action and qualifies as a Type II action in
accordance with the Department’s implementing regulations of SEQR (17 NYCRR Part 15).
The project will comply with the policies of the CZMA Program, the Croton-On-Hudson LWRP
Area, and Hudson Highlands SASS. The bridge painting is scheduled to occur sometime
between December 2022 and December 2023.
The NYSDOT respectfully requests the Department of State review the provided information
and indicate if the project meets the general consistency concurrence criteria.
