To: From: Frank Balbi, Supt. of Public Works Date: July 1, 2022 Re: Nordica Pump Station As part of its infrastructure, the Village owns, operates and maintains four sanitary sewer pump stations; Nordica Drive, Arrowcrest, Half Moon Bay, and Skyview. These pump stations operate 24 hours per day, and direct sanitary sewer flow to larger portions of the system for residents living in the immediate areas. The Nordica Drive Pump Station has been in operation since approximately 1960, and contains two large capacity pumps. Both pumps are original to the building and the work flow alternates between them. On June 22, 2022 a large leak was discovered in one of the pumps. The pump was immediately taken out of service and removed. Lately, material and equipment has been difficult to obtain. At the time of removal, we were not sure how long it would take to secure replacements. We asked our pump maintenance contractor to rebuild the existing pump and get it ready to be temporarily placed back into service. This would give us time to locate and/or wait for replacement pumps to become available. This work is scheduled to be completed by July 8, 2022. At the same time, we contacted our design engineer to specify the correct replacement needed for the system. Once we had this information, we were able to search for the correct pumps. Luckily, two pumps were located and available. Since these pumps are not considered a stock item, and availability with other vendors is unknown, we purchased the replacements; the pumps are currently in our possession. I consider the loss of this pump an emergency for the Village, and have been working towards timely replacement without the loss of service. We are requesting that the replacement of the pumps, control panel, equipment and all associated labor be considered emergency work. An estimated cost for the pump replacement work can be found below. We will also be working with an electrician and welder, however both are under a current contract. These funds can be taken from an existing Capital Account setup for pump station repairs/maintenance (H8120.2102.09180).
