To: From: Date: August 19, 2022 Re: Community Gardens Expansion The Village of Croton-on-Hudson currently has two community gardens: one at Silver Lake Park and one at the Municipal Building. These gardens have proven to be quite popular and there is currently a waiting list for available plots. I recently met with members of the Community Gardens group, the DPW and the Croton CAC to discuss creating a third community garden at Gouveia Park. This garden would be located behind the existing Quonset Hut on the eastern side of the park. The location appears to receive sufficient daytime sun and would require little tree removal. DPW has provided a cost estimate for the work that is necessary to clear the site and prepare the area for garden beds to be installed (which will be done by the gardeners). Additionally, the cost for improving and extending the driveway to the garden site has been estimated. I would like to have this expense covered by the park’s endowment fund.
