Upon the 4th of July, 1701, occurs the following license :
" I underwritten do give free liberty so far as it lyes in my power, (by virtue of a grant to me from Colonel Benjamin Fletcher, late Governor of New York,) unto Robert Lockliard, Richard Scofield, Nathaniel Sellick and Gcrshom Lockhard, to purchase of the Indian proprietors, the lands hereafter mentioned from Mehanas River to Byram River, and so run northward three miles into ye woods,

On the same day the Indians conveyed to Col. Caleb Heathcote, Capt. James Mott, Robert Lockhard, Gershom Lockhard, Jonathan Lockhard, Nathaniel Sellick, RichardScofield, Gershom Lockhard, Gershom's son, and Henry Disbrow, of the one part, and Seringoe, Raresquarsh, Washpaken, Ramhone and Packanain on the other part, witnessed!, that the said Serringoe, Raresquash, Washpaken, Ramhone and Packanain, in consideration of a certain sum of good and lawful money to them in hand paid, at the ensealing and delivery of these presents, the receipt whereof they do hereby acknowledge, and themselves therewith to be fully satisfied, contented and paid, and thereof and therefrom do acquit, exonerate and discharge the said Col.
