Although Derbyshire told John Macdonald that he was born in White Plains, the census indicates that he was born in England. DEVEAU, Daniel Daniel is listed as "Daniel Devoe," a 63-year-old shoemaker in the Town of Yonkers, New York, in the 1850 United States Census. The tombstone of Daniel Devoe in Saint John's Cemetery in Yonkers indicates that he was born in 1787 and died in 1857 (WCHS Book #86, p.35). DEVOE, Hannah Hannah Devoe was the wife of interviewee Joshua Devoe.
