The Advisory Board on the Visual Environment will hold its regular meeting Tuesday, August 11, with the most consequential item on the agenda being a request from Village Manager Bryan Healy to recommend a paint color for the Half Moon Bay Bridge.
The bridge, which connects the village to the riverfront and provides the only road access to the Half Moon Bay neighborhood and Senasqua Park, is undergoing a federally funded rehabilitation project. In a memo dated August 7, Healy tells the VEB that while the existing bridge footprint will not change, the bridge's components are being rehabilitated or replaced — giving the village a one-time chance to choose a color for the steel girders beneath the deck. Those girders will be visible from both the Metro-North railroad tracks and the Half Moon Bay multi-use path.
Three color options have been provided in a separate sample sheet for the board's review. Healy notes the project is on a tight timeline and asks the VEB to give its recommendation at this meeting. The trustees authorized up to $1.25 million in bond funding for the bridge reconstruction in June, building on earlier engineering contracts and a federal grant that will cover much of the cost. Construction is expected to bring alternating one-way traffic to the area.
The board will also consider two sign permit applications. Lisa Shoenholt of Brooklyn Embodied Pilates, at 66 Maple Street, has submitted a redacted application along with renderings of the proposed signage and aluminum sign specifications. The packet includes scanned images but no extractable text describing the proposed design. Kate Eichelberger of Mondays, at 125 Grand Street, is seeking approval for a window painting, with a scanned application and design images included in the packet.
In routine business, the VEB will be asked to approve the draft minutes from its June 9 meeting. Those minutes show the board reviewed signage for Magical Beginnings at two locations — 10 Old Post Road South and 365 S. Riverside Avenue — as well as a building identification sign for The Hudson Condos at 25 S. Riverside Avenue. All three applications received unanimous approval after clarifications about letter height, glass tinting, and sign dimensions. The June meeting also included a review of a proposed scoreboard for Dobbs Park, which the board found acceptable.
The meeting will be held via Zoom. Residents interested in attending should email Assistant Building Inspector Danalys Nazario at dnazario@crotononhudson-ny.gov before 3:00 p.m. on the day of the meeting to receive the link.
