Dear Croton Harmon Board of Education, On behalf of Holy Name of Mary (HNM), I am pleased to share that our CYO Basketball program provided competitive basketball opportunities for approximately 150 children from 3rd to 8th grade in Croton during the 2025-2026 season. Every player in our program is a student within the Croton-Harmon school district, and we are proud to offer this sport to so many young athletes. We strongly believe that CYO Basketball serves as a valuable pipeline that supports the development of players for Croton Modified and High School basketball teams. We respectfully request the gym usage fee at PVC & CHHS be waived for CYO Basketball during the upcoming season. Specifically, for our older players, we would like to use the 2nd floor PVC gym and CHHS Aux gym during the week for practices and Friday night games. The gym at HNM is too small to properly accommodate our older athletes, and available time slots are extremely limited. Basketball continues to be a growing passion among students in our district, with some grades now fielding multiple CYO teams due to rising participation. Last season, CYO provided a place for athletes who were cut from the Modified team to continue playing and refining their skills, ensuring that every student had an opportunity to develop in the sport. We are fortunate to have a dedicated group of volunteer parent coaches and a committed volunteer committee working to promote both interest and skill in basketball. Beyond athletics, our Friday Night CYO games have evolved into a beloved community tradition, bringing together middle school students, their families, and friends in a lively and supportive atmosphere. These nights have become a social gathering point, where students can cheer for their classmates, bond over shared enthusiasm, and engage in an uplifting experience that strengthens school spirit. By waiving the gym usage fee, you would be supporting not only the players but also the broader community that has come to cherish these events. We kindly ask that you consider and approve this request, as you did for the 2025-2026 season, in recognition of our status as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
