Croton's Advisory Board on the Visual Environment approved every sign that came before it at its June 9 meeting, held over Zoom — a slate led by Magical Beginnings Learning Centers' signs at two village addresses.
Magical Beginnings Learning Centers brought facade signs for 10 Old Post Road South and 365 South Riverside Avenue. On the Old Post Road sign, the board expressed concern that the proposed font size might be too small to be visible on the facade, and the rendering in the submitted photo was not clear. The clarifications settled it: the letter "L" will stand roughly 11 1/2 inches tall, and the glass will not be tinted black as the rendering depicted — it will be transparent, carrying the curving blue lines and green stars of the design. With that, the board agreed unanimously that the design was acceptable.
The South Riverside Avenue location carries two facade signs — one facing South Riverside identical to the Old Post Road design, and a slightly different one facing Benedict Boulevard. Following the same discussion and clarifications, the board unanimously accepted both.
The board also unanimously approved a building-identification sign for The Hudson condominiums at 25 South Riverside Avenue, positioned directly against the entrance stair at a riser before the intermediate landing. The front-yard landscaping at the building came up as well, with the plantings reported to be growing and thriving.
On the village's own docket, the board unanimously approved the proposed Croton Little League scoreboard for Dobbs Park.
Three board members attended, among them Tatyana Polyak and Jan Johnsen, joined by the assistant building inspector and Trustee Maria Slippen, the Board of Trustees liaison. The board approved its May 12 minutes without comment.
