The Advisory Board on the Visual Environment is scheduled to meet Monday, July 14, to review a sign permit application for a new Maple Street business and approve draft minutes from its June session. The sole sign permit on the agenda comes from applicant Lisa Shoenholt, who is seeking approval for signage at Brooklyn Embodied Pilates, located at 66 Maple Street (SBL 78.08-7-7). The application packet includes three documents: a redacted sign permit application, aluminum sign specifications, and a set of sign images showing the proposed design. Because all three PDFs are scanned images with no extractable text, the specific details of the proposed sign — including dimensions, colors, and placement — are not available for review in advance of the meeting. The VEB will be asked to evaluate the proposed sign against village sign regulations and render a recommendation. The board's review is advisory; final sign permits are issued by the Village Engineer's office. This review follows months of activity around village signage issues, including the VEB's extensive review this spring of Local Law Introductory 7 of 2026, a comprehensive rewrite of the village's sign regulations that would expand the board's review window from 21 to 60 days. Also on the agenda is the approval of draft minutes from the VEB's June 9 meeting. Those minutes recount several items the board reviewed at its prior session, including signage for Magical Beginnings at two locations — 10 Old Post Road South and 365 South Riverside Avenue — where members raised initial concerns about font size visibility before unanimously finding the designs acceptable. The board also signed off on signage for The Hudson Condos at 25 South Riverside Avenue and reviewed a proposed scoreboard for Dobbs Park, both of which received unanimous approval. The June meeting was held virtually and was attended by members Tatyana Polyak, Maria Slippen, Jennifer Dela Rosa, Jan Johnsen, Tyler Blaire, Ralph Rossi, and Assistant Building Inspector Danalys Nazario.
