Agenda preview
Croton-Harmon’s school board is set to consider a timetable Thursday for developing the next school budget, leading to a proposed May 18, 2027 public vote. Superintendent Stephen Walker is also scheduled to present his goals for the current school year.
The November 5 business meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. in the Croton-Harmon High School library, according to the district’s
official calendar. The agenda also includes a five-year-plus copier agreement, additional tennis-court lighting work and two new-business items still marked as placeholders.
A budget calendar, with spending decisions still ahead
The proposed
2027–28 budget development calendar puts enrollment projections before the board on December 17. Budget presentations would follow in February and March, covering revenues, operations, technology, athletics, school buildings, instruction and pupil services.
The timetable calls for the superintendent’s budget presentation and board adoption on April 8, a public budget hearing on May 6, and the annual budget vote and trustee election on May 18, from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Approving the calendar Thursday would set the schedule; it would not approve the 2027–28 spending plan. The document says dates tied to budget notices and statutory requirements remain subject to State guidance and executive orders.
Walker’s separate presentation concerns his goals for 2026–27.
Copiers and tennis-court lights
A proposed Xerox Business Solutions agreement would set a base payment of $5,112.21 a month for 63 months. The
vendor’s proposal covers 11 leased devices and equipment and maintenance, with monthly allowances of 275,000 black-and-white pages and 3,800 color pages. It lists additional per-page charges for usage above those allowances.
The vendor projects savings of $178.18 a month compared with the current arrangement. That is the proposal’s estimate, rather than a saving already realized. The package also includes a
non-appropriations amendment allowing termination for a future fiscal period if the district meets its conditions for unavailable funding.
Two proposed change orders would add $8,367.55 to ER Electric Corp.’s tennis-court project:
$5,295.27 for wiring and
$3,072.28 for excavation and backfill to connect the lighting-control button at the court gate. If both are approved, the listed contract sum would rise from $285,777 to $294,144.55.
The consent agenda also proposes a
$29,793.98 renewal for tent, stage and chair rentals from Cartwright & Daughters, including a $2,098.13 damage waiver. The attached reservation is for the district’s 2027 graduation setup at Croton Point Park.
Placeholders and public participation
A proposed memorandum of agreement with the Croton Teachers’ Association and appointments to the Community Advisory Committee on Technology are both labeled “[PLACEHOLDER]” in the posted agenda. The materials do not yet set out the agreement’s terms or the proposed committee membership.
Other business includes a proposed $111 Croton Caring Committee ACE donation for sixth-grade trips to Sunnyside and Taconic Outside Education Center, personnel and service agreements, and approval of the October 1 and October 15 meeting minutes.
Residents have two public-comment opportunities, one during the reports and another near the end of the meeting. The posted rules limit speakers to three minutes and prohibit comments about a specific student or staff member. The board says it will listen during those periods, with follow-up afterward as appropriate, rather than answer questions during the meeting. Written comments can go to BOE@chufsd.org.
