John Horton is listed as a 70-year-old farmer in the Town of White Plains, New York, in the 1850 United States Census. His tombstone in the Grace Episcopal Church Cemetery in White Plains indicates that he died on September 13, 1854, aged 74 years, 6 months, and 17 days (WCHS Book 17, p.29). The tombstone no longer exists, as the remains in the Grace Episcopal Church Cemetery were moved to a plot at the White Plains Rural Cemetery in White Plains.
