LYON, Samuel (or Chestnut Ridge) Samuel Lyon is occasionally referred to as Samuel Lyons. He is listed as the son of Major Samuel Lyon of the Westchester County Militia. He is listed as a 62-year-old farmer in the Town of North Castle, New York, in the 1850 United States Census. LYON, Samuel (or Rye) John Macdonald indicated that Samuel Lyon was "aged nearly 89" at the time of his interview on December 5, 1848. His tombstone in Greenwood Union Cemetery in Rye, New York, indicates that he died on September 21, 1849, aged 89 years, 3 months, and 16 days (WCHS Book #33, p. 113).
