Lee is likely William See, who owned a store at the northwest corner of the intersection of Broadway, Bedford Road and Beekman Avenue in present-day Sleepy Hollow, New York during the time that John Macdonald was conducting his interviews. He is listed as a 46-year-old merchant in the Town of Mount Pleasant, New York, in the 1850 United States Census. His tombstone in the Old Dutch Burying Ground in Sleepy Hollow indicates that he died on August 10, 1880, aged 76 years, 10 months and 15 days (WCHS Book #25C, p. 107).

SHAW, John John Shaw was a son of John Shaw, a highly regarded soldier in the Westchester County Militia. He is listed as a 70-year-old resident of the Town of Cortlandt, New York, in the 1850 United States Census.

SHERWOOD, Huggeford Huggeford Sherwood was named for Loyalist Major Thomas Huggeford of DeLancey's Refugees. John Macdonald indicated that Sherwood was 75 years old at the time of his interview on November 26, 1849. He is listed as a 78-year-old farmer in the Town of Greenwich, Connecticut, in the 1850 United States Census.

SMITH, Caleb Caleb Smith was the husband of Hannah Dyckman, who was a sister of Westchester Guides Abraham "Brom" Dyckman and Michael Dyckman. He is listed as a 76-year-old farmer in the Town of Yonkers, New York, in the 1850 United States Census. His tombstone in Saint John's Cemetery in Yonkers indicates that he died on January 2, 1858, aged 84 years and 4 months (WCHS Book #40, p. 174).
