Caleb himself was elected to the New York State Assembly, served two terms in the United States House of Representatives, and held the position of Westchester County Judge from 1807 to 1820 and 1823 to 1846. TOMPKINS, Charity Charity Purdy Tompkins was the wife of interviewee Washington Tompkins. She is listed as a 74-year-old resident of the Town of White Plains, New York, in the 1850 United States Census. Her tombstone in White Plains Rural Cemetery in White Plains indicates that she died on March 27, 1853, aged 76 years (WCHS Book #38, p. 132).

TOMPKINS, John John Tompkins is listed as a 66-year-old farmer in the Town of Greenburgh, New York, in the 1850 United States Census. His tombstone in the Greenville Reformed Church Cemetery in Greenburgh indicates that he died on September 7, 1864, aged 79 years, 11 months, and 29 days (WCHS Book #6, p. 19).

TOMPKINS, Nehemiah U. The Reverend Doctor Nehemiah U. Tompkins was a minister of the Methodist Episcopal Church. He is listed as a 76-year-old resident of the 10th Ward of New York City in the 1850 United States Census. His death notice in The Evening Post indicates that he died on May 26, 1855, in the 90th year of his age (The Evening Post, New York, N.Y., May 28, 1855).

TOMPKINS, Washington George Washington Tompkins was the husband of interviewee Charity Tompkins. He is listed as a 79-year-old farmer in the Town of White Plains, New York, in the 1850 United States Census. His tombstone in White Plains Rural Cemetery in White Plains indicates that he died on November 8, 1860, aged 83 years (WCHS Book #38, p. 132).
