Valentine, who appear to have been residing on Valentine's Hill when Macdonald was conducting his interviews. Elijah Valentine is listed as a 36-year-old farmer, George B. Valentine is listed as 49-year-old farmer, and Thomas B. Valentine is listed as a 40-year-old farmer in the Town of Yonkers, New York, in the 1850 United States Census.

VALENTINE, Elijah This interviewee is likely the Elijah Valentine whose death notice indicates that he died in New York City on March 23, 1848 "in the 69th year of his age." See New-York Commercial Advertiser, March 24, 1848.
VALENTINE, Frederick Frederick Valentine is listed as "Fred Valentine," a 90-year-old cartman in the 13th Ward of New York City in the 1850 United States Census.
VAN CORTLANDT, Pierre Jr. Pierre Van Cortlandt Jr., was a son of Pierre Van Cortlandt (1721-1819), who served as Lieutenant Governor of New York from 1777 to 1795, and Joanna Livingston (1722-1808). His brother Philip Van Cortlandt (1749-1831) served in the Continental Army and ended the war as a brevet brigadier general. VAN WART, Alexander The Reverend Alexander Van Wart was a son of Isaac Van Wart, one of the three captors of British Major John Andre, and Rachel Storm. He was a preacher in the Methodist Episcopal Church. He is listed as a 50-year-old farmer and resident of the Town of Mount Pleasant, New York, in the 1850 United States Census.
