VERMILLYE, Isaac See VERMILLYA, Isaac
VERMILLYA, Isaac Although John Macdonald lists Isaac's surname as Vermillye, it appears that it was actually spelled Vermilyea. He is listed as "Isaac Vermilie," an 81-year-old farmer in the Town of Greenburgh, New York, in the 1850 United States Census. His surname is spelled Vermilye, Vermilya and Vermilye in the Westchester County Land Records (Westchester County Land Records Liber Z, p. 288; 32, p. 177; 83, p. 286). He himself spelled his surname Vermillya in his will (New York County Wills Liber 111, p. 224-225). The tombstone of "Isaac Vermillya" in Saint John's Cemetery in Yonkers, New York, indicates that he was born on July 14, 1769, and died on December 11, 1854 (WCHS Book #40, p. 149).
[page break] The McDonald Interviews: Interviewees
VREDENBURGH, Susanna It appears that Susanna's first name was actually Susan. She told John Macdonald that she would turn 92 years old in May 1848. She is listed as "Susannah Vredenburgh," a 94-year-old resident of the Town of Yonkers, New York, in the 1850 United States Census. Her tombstone of Susan Vredenburgh in Saint Paul's Episcopal Church Cemetery in Mount Vernon, New York, indicates that she died on July 20, 1854, aged 98 years, 2 months, and 17 days (WCHS Book #13, Volume 3, p. 336).
